Is Paul Preparing for Another War?

Los Angeles – Director Denis Villeneuve jokingly remarked, “Is this a trailer release event? It feels like a premiere.”

He made this comment while introducing the cast of “Dune Part 3” to journalists, film critics, bloggers, and content creators gathered at an AMC theater.

Alongside returning cast members Zendaya and Javier Bardem, new faces such as Anya Taylor-Joy (who had a brief role in Part Two) and Robert Pattinson joined the event. Together, they presented a glimpse of the final installment of the sci-fi film series with director Villeneuve.

Zendaya, who plays the Fremen warrior Chani, expressed her excitement, saying, “I am very thrilled; I have already seen the scenes that will appear on screen.”

She added, “These films mean a great deal to my life. I have spent my twenties working on them, so they hold a special place in my heart.”

Timothée Chalamet, who portrays the main character Paul Atreides in the series, could not attend the event in person. However, he opened the special gathering with a video message.

In the recorded message, he said, “This film would not have been possible without the great director and outstanding artist Denis Villeneuve. Denis always says, ‘Let’s keep cinema alive.’ And through the third installment, he has truly done that. This is cinema in its truest form. Thank you for your dedication in bringing the ‘Dune’ universe to life. I am not alone. Now, Part Three will also keep this saga alive.”

After the continuous filming of the first two parts, Villeneuve had originally planned to create a different film. However, following the response to the second movie, he adjusted his plans.

“Dune: Part Three” is inspired by Frank Herbert’s book “Dune Messiah.” The story follows Paul—a warrior prince and chosen one—after defeating the Harkonnens and becoming emperor. He adopts the role of the Fremen’s messiah and initiates a holy war.

To strengthen his political power, he marries Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh), which distances Chani from him. The trailer showcases explosive scenes of the interplanetary war that follows. It also reveals Paul’s internal psychological struggles.

The clip begins with happy moments between Paul and Chani, where they discuss potential names for their child. “If it’s a girl, what would you name her?” Chani asks. Paul replies, “Her name should be Ghanima. She should be as strong as her mother.” Then Paul asks, “What if it’s a boy?” Chani responds, “I would name him Leto, so he has the wisdom of his grandfather.”

Fans of “Dune” will recognize this dialogue as a foreshadowing of future events, though further details remain undisclosed.

Instead, the scene beautifully depicts Zendaya walking among desert sand dunes. Chani still seems to embody the ‘heartbeat’ of Villeneuve’s storyline. But this is “Dune,” not “Under the Tuscan Sun.”

At the end of the scene, Paul, sporting short hair, appears to be preparing for another war. He says, “I am not afraid to die, but now is not the time to die.”

The film is set to premiere on December 18, 2026.
