
20 Stranded Nepali Nationals Rescued from Cambodia and Returned Home
March 19, Kathmandu – Twenty Nepali citizens stranded in Cambodia for various reasons have been rescued and repatriated. These individuals had traveled to Cambodia under various lures and were rescued by the Nepali Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand.
According to the embassy, the rescued individuals were involved in working at online scamming centers, casinos engaging in online fraud, and other illegal activities, many of whom were residing without proper visas.
Through the initiative of the embassy and with the support of the Cambodian government, they were safely evacuated and, facilitated by the Non-Resident Nepali Association in Cambodia, were sent to Kathmandu by Wednesday. They landed at Tribhuvan International Airport on Friday.
It has been reported that the number of stranded Nepalis may increase, and efforts are ongoing by the embassy to rescue additional individuals.

According to tourism statistics from Cambodia, 101 Nepalis visited Cambodia on tourist visas in 2021; this number rose to 1,977 in 2022, 2,940 in 2023, 6,404 in 2024, and 9,676 in 2025.
The embassy has cautioned against falling for any enticements and urged people to travel to countries such as Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand only after obtaining labor approval as per the standards set by the Government of Nepal.
