The ongoing conflict between Iran and the US–Israel coalition has now entered its third week. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump’s administration has commenced serious discussions about deploying thousands of additional American troops to the Middle East region.

According to Reuters, the White House is considering the option of deploying ‘ground forces’ to make ‘Operation Epic Fury’ more effective and to maintain control over Iran’s strategic areas.

The primary objective of this potential military deployment is to ensure the secure movement of oil tankers through critical regions where 90 percent of Iran’s oil exports pass, specifically around Kharg Island and the Strait of Hormuz.

Military experts suggest that maintaining control over Kharg Island would be more economically and strategically beneficial than destroying it, although such an operation would carry significant risks.

Additionally, there are discussions about dispatching US special units to safeguard Iran’s substantial stockpiles of highly enriched uranium.

Since the conflict began on February 28, the US has conducted over 7,800 airstrikes, destroying more than 120 Iranian naval vessels.

So far, 13 American soldiers have lost their lives, and approximately 200 have been wounded. Although President Trump pledged during his campaign to keep the US out of foreign wars, he has not completely ruled out the option of deploying ‘boots on the ground’ to fully eliminate Iran’s ballistic missile capabilities and nuclear weapons potential.
