5 Chaitra, Kathmandu — The Election Commission has announced that in the House of Representatives election held on Falgun 21, a total of 179 male and 96 female members were elected.

According to a statement released on Thursday by Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, the spokesperson of the commission, the House comprises 275 members, among whom 179 are men and 96 are women.

The commission detailed that the elected members represent various groups as follows: 21.09% indigenous nationalities, 49.09% Khas Arya, 3.27% Tharu, 6.18% Dalit, 16.73% Madhesi, and 3.64% Muslims.

In this election, 65 political parties contested using 61 election symbols in the direct election category, while 63 parties ran with 57 election symbols under the proportional representation system.
