Iranian Parliament Speaker’s Controversial Claim: US Is Planning a Ground Invasion of Iran
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has accused the United States of secretly planning a ground invasion of Iran. The US magazine The Washington Post has confirmed that the Pentagon is drafting plans for a possible ‘ground offensive’ in Iran. The deployment of thousands of American troops from Asia to the Middle East has heightened the risk of war, while it remains uncertain whether President Trump will give final approval.
On Sunday, Ghalibaf made a sensational claim stating that the US is secretly preparing for a ground attack on Iran. In a statement released through the official news agency IRNA, Ghalibaf alleged that although the US is publicly discussing negotiations and diplomacy, it is covertly preparing for military action. He warned, “Our soldiers are waiting to burn the American forces in fire and teach their regional allies a permanent lesson.”
Describing the country as being in a “moment of great crisis,” Ghalibaf also called on the Iranian people to unite. Meanwhile, The Washington Post has corroborated that the Pentagon has been working for several weeks on plans for a potential ‘ground offensive’ in Iran. However, due to President Donald Trump’s longstanding promise not to send troops into foreign conflicts, there is uncertainty whether he will authorize such action.
Just last Friday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the US can achieve its objectives through airstrikes alone, making a “boots on the ground” approach unnecessary. However, in recent weeks, thousands of US Marines and paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division have been deployed from Asia to the Middle East, increasing the likelihood of conflict. According to military experts, the US may target Kharg Island— the main hub for 90 percent of Iran’s oil exports— which President Trump has desired to seize since 1988.
