1st Baisakh, Kathmandu – Today marks the beginning of Vikram Samvat 2083. The New Year is traditionally seen as a symbol of excitement, fresh hopes, and new beginnings. Across the country, people are exchanging greetings and celebrating the New Year with great joy. Globally, the New Year is celebrated as a special occasion, and in Nepal, Baisakh 1 is observed as the New Year. Vikram Samvat is considered the oldest calendar system, and today is its very first day. It also marks the day the sun completes its transit through the Pisces zodiac sign and enters Aries, an event known as Baisakh Sankranti or Mesh Sankranti.
