Kathmandu: A discussion on the poetry collection ‘Poetic Diaspora’ by poet Anusha Sharma Suvedi took place in Lalitpur’s Hattivan. During a special event, the collection was thoroughly reviewed. Professor Arun Gupto, who was also the chief guest, highlighted that the 130 poems written in English are highly powerful and deeply contemplative. He commended Sharma’s strong ability to engage with words and imaginative wordplay by focusing on specific themes.
Similarly, poet and critic Keshav Sigdel described Anusha’s poems as being of a very high caliber. “Each word is imbued with profound meanings, wrapped in a beautiful artistic expression. The complex style does not overwhelm the reader. There is a strong devotional sentiment throughout. Reading these poems reflects clearly the poet’s independent thinking,” he said. Critic Mahesh Paudel pointed out that Anusha’s poetry reveals a visionary perspective on life and the world, further suggesting that her works possess a meditative quality.
Poet Sarala KC also noted the depth of emotion in Anusha’s poems. “When I read her poetry, I feel as if I am sitting beside a cool waterfall. The words contain strength, and the emotions have impact. The poems have the capability to deeply engage readers with their emotional messages,” she said. Poet and writer Rajiv Shrestha responded that he found a vivid sense of life experience in her poems. “Her poems appear to be reflections emerging directly from her own life experience. Having worked closely with her, I know she is a spiritual person. She attains great joy in devotion to Lord Shiva, which is also evident as a spiritual essence in her poetry,” he explained.
Professor Gupto remarked that Anusha’s poetry carries a message about how a woman can play a powerful role in society after understanding herself. He also noted that the poems reveal spiritual feelings alongside a sense of national consciousness. Journalist, poet, and writer Deepak Sapkota read selected poems by Anusha, while journalist and literary figure Raj Sargam facilitated the dialogue with the poet regarding her work.
During the event, Anusha shared that she expressed through poetry those feelings she was unable to communicate in words. “Due to various reasons, I was separated from my family and articulated those emotions through my poems. My family has been immensely supportive of this publication,” she said. She also shared her love for nature and profound devotion to Lord Shiva. The program included welcome remarks from writer and children’s songwriter Rambabu Suvedi.
