No Nepali Cricketers Ranked in Top 100 ODI Batting List

The ICC’s latest update of the ODI batting rankings shows no Nepali batsman in the top 100. All-rounder Dipendra Singh Airey holds the 31st position, while bowler Sandeep Lamichhane is ranked 43rd. Nepali batsmen have been unable to maintain consistent performances needed to break into the top 100 rankings. Kathmandu, 6 May.

In the most recent update of the One Day International (ODI) batting rankings by the ICC, no Nepali batsmen appear in the top 100 spots. Although Nepali players have secured notable positions in bowling and all-rounder rankings, none have ranked within the top 100 for batting. This reflects the struggle of Nepali batsmen to deliver regular, sustained performances at the international level.

During the domestic League 2 series played on home soil, besides all-rounder Dipendra Singh Airey, others have not matched the same level of performance. Opener Asif Sheikh, after being dropped in the first match, scored 94 runs on Tuesday. Prior to that, he was dismissed for 7 and 19 runs and was subsequently dropped from the squad starting the third game. Another opener, Kushal Bhurtel, was dismissed for 1 and 0 runs in the first two games, resulting in no opportunities for the third and fourth matches.

Dipendra scored 75 runs in the first game against UAE and 60 against Oman, including a century in the second game against UAE. He scored 33 runs in the second game against Oman. His performance primarily centers around his role as an all-rounder. To improve batting rankings, consistent and continuous strong performances are essential—something Nepali batsmen have yet to demonstrate repeatedly.
