British Prime Minister Starmer Faces Crisis as Own Party MPs Demand Resignation
April 13, Kathmandu – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer finds himself in a dire crisis as ministers within his own government and party MPs create a challenging situation. On Tuesday alone, four cabinet ministers resigned from Starmer’s administration. So far, over 80 Labour Party MPs have called for Starmer to step down from his position. They are demanding that he either resign immediately or be given a definitive deadline to do so.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Health Secretary Wes Streeting, a member of Starmer’s cabinet, held a crucial meeting with the Prime Minister, which international media outlets have highlighted. Streeting is considered a potential contender for the next Prime Minister. Earlier, Starmer had rejected calls for his resignation from within the Labour Party.
This turmoil has unfolded on the eve of King Charles III’s speech to Parliament. In this address, King Charles is expected to outline new proposed laws and government plans from the Starmer administration. The speech is anticipated to include a number of new bills. However, there is widespread discussion in Britain about whether these initiatives will be enacted if Starmer’s leadership does not continue.
