Farewell Ceremony for Nepal Women’s Cricket Team Ahead of Asian Games Qualifiers and Premier Cup

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced a farewell ceremony on Tuesday for the Nepali women’s cricket team departing for Malaysia to compete in the Asian Games qualifiers and the ACC Premier Cup. The Asian Games qualifiers will be held from May 23 to 31, while the Premier Cup is scheduled from June 1 to 13 in Malaysia. CAN Vice President Roshan Singh emphasized the need for unity within the team, stating, ‘After CAN’s significant investment, it is time to deliver results.’

The farewell ceremony marked the send-off of the Nepali women’s cricket squad, who will leave for Malaysia on Tuesday to participate in the two upcoming tournaments. The Asian Games qualifiers are set for May 23–31, followed by the Premier Cup from June 1–13.

According to Cricket Manager Binod Das, Nepal has arranged two friendly matches with the Malaysian team on May 20 and 22 as part of their final preparations. Team captain Indu Burma, speaking at the farewell event, expressed confidence in their preparation and anticipated returning with positive results. Head coach Harshal Pathak also conveyed optimism about delivering a strong performance.

Vice President Roshan Singh, while bidding farewell to the players, underscored that it is now time to show tangible results. ‘After so much investment by CAN, we expect the team to produce outcomes,’ he said, adding, ‘Without unity within the team, good results cannot be achieved.’

The Nepali squad includes: Indu Burma (captain), Pooja Mahato (vice-captain), Ruby Poddar, Kavita Joshi, Sita Rana Magar, Anu Kathayat, Sony Pakhrin, Simana KC, Bindu Rawal, Samjhana Khadka, Kavita Kunwar, Riya Sharma, Manisha Upadhyay, and Rubina Kshetri. Reserve players are Savitri Dhami, Somu Bisht, Sana Praveen, and Laxmi Saud.
