Chennai Super Kings have been knocked out of the IPL 2026 league stage following a heavy loss to Gujarat Titans. Gujarat defeated Chennai by 89 runs, securing 18 points from 14 matches and sitting firmly in second place. Kathmandu, May 21 – The five-time champions Chennai Super Kings’ exit from the IPL 2026 league phase has been confirmed. The team faced a significant 89-run defeat against Gujarat Titans in the game held Thursday night, which sealed their fate in the competition.

Chasing a target of 230 set by Gujarat, Chennai was all out for 140 runs in 13.4 overs. Apart from Shiv Dubey’s aggressive innings of 47 runs off 17 balls, the other batsmen failed to deliver as expected. Matthew Short scored 24, while Kartik Sharma and Anshul Kumboj each contributed 19, and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad made 16 runs. For Gujarat, Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada, and Rashid Khan each took three wickets.

After losing the toss and batting first, Gujarat posted 229 runs for 4 wickets in their 20 overs. Sai Sudharsan was the top scorer with 84 runs, while captain Shubman Gill added 64 and Jos Buttler remained unbeaten with 57 runs. For Chennai, Mukesh Choudhary, Spencer Johnson, and Anshul Kumboj claimed one wicket each. This victory brought Gujarat’s points tally to 18 from 14 matches, strengthening their hold on second place and boosting their chances of finishing in the top two positions.
