Alpine Sports Federation’s Annual Meeting and Adventure Sports Event Successfully Held in Kalinchok

18 Jestha, Kathmandu – On the occasion of World Mount Everest Day, the Alpine Sports Federation Nepal successfully conducted its 5th Annual General Meeting and various adventure sports events in the renowned tourist area of Kalinchok in the Himalayan district of Dolakha.

Aiming to promote sustainable tourism through alpine, winter, mountain, and adventure sports, the federation organized these programs along with the general assembly at Kuri Bazaar, located 3,450 meters above sea level, on Jestha 15 and 16.

The General Assembly established the federation’s future strategies and implemented significant organizational restructuring.

The assembly included 22 of the 31 appointed representatives from the central working committee, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as five nominated experts from technical and professional sectors. The total attendance, including invited guests, sports enthusiasts, and experts, reached 43.

The assembly brought changes in leadership and responsibilities with the appointment and reassignment of several office bearers. President Govinda Bhattarai announced the appointment of Umesh KC Chaulagain as the General Manager to enhance organizational operations.

Progress and financial reports, upcoming work plans, budgets, auditor appointments, subject-specific responsibilities of office bearers, and proposals for national and international collaborations were unanimously approved by the General Assembly.

The event saw participation from dignitaries such as Sanjiv Oli, Chairperson of Bigu Rural Municipality, and Kul Bahadur Budhathoki, Vice-chairperson of Kalinchok Rural Municipality, along with various athletes, experts, and business personalities.

High-Altitude Tug of War Competition

On World Mount Everest Day, Nepal hosted its highest ever Tug of War competition at 3,450 meters elevation. Organized by the Alpine Sports Federation with technical support from the Nepal Tug of War Association, Koshi Province emerged victorious.

In the final, Koshi Province defeated Bagmati Province 2–0 sets to claim first place. Earlier, Bagmati overcame the Karnali-Sudurpaschim combined team 2–1, while Koshi defeated Dolakha 2–0 to reach the final.

A total of 40 players (8 main and 2 substitutes) participated from Koshi, Bagmati, Karnali-Sudurpaschim, and the host team Dolakha.

The federation announced plans to honor the winning teams at a special ceremony in Kathmandu in the near future.

‘Tour de Himalaya’: Kathmandu to Kalinchok Motorcycle Rally

To promote adventure sports compatible with Nepal’s geography and natural environment, the Alpine Sports Federation Nepal successfully conducted the Kathmandu-Kalinchok TSD (Time, Speed, Distance) motorcycle rally under the ‘Tour de Himalaya’ brand.

The federation plans to develop this rally into an international Nepali brand starting next year.

On Jestha 15, the rally was flagged off by Dasharath Risal, President of Nepal Automobile Association, from the federation’s office at Satdobato, Kathmandu.

The rally, managed by X Pulse Riders Club, traversed through Banepa, Dolalghat, Khandichaur, Mude, and Charikot before concluding at Kuri Bazaar in Kalinchok.

The event featured 21 motorcycles, 41 riders, and 8 technical personnel, totaling 49 participants.

Time, speed, and distance elements combined in this rally are expected to contribute significantly to the Trans-Himalayan sports sector. Participants were warmly welcomed by Sanjiv Oli, Chairperson of Bigu Rural Municipality.

This rally, organized with the goal of promoting sustainable tourism through adventure sports suited to Nepal’s geographical and natural setting, is also anticipated to establish the Dolakha and Kalinchok regions as key adventure sports destinations.
