Due to the recent surge in temperature, tourists seeking relief, entertainment, and adventure are increasingly drawn to Phewa Lake in Pokhara. The lake’s natural beauty has boosted foot traffic from both domestic and international visitors, significantly enhancing interest in various water sports. In particular, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) have gained popularity among the youth.
These activities, which involve paddling across the calm waters of the lake, are emerging as new attractions in adventure tourism. Since these centers provide necessary safety equipment at the lake’s edge, tourists can engage in water sports with confidence.
Business operators report that kayaking fees generally range from NPR 200 to NPR 1,000 per hour. Early mornings or afternoons are considered the most suitable times for kayaking. Facilities are conveniently available from locations such as Barahi Ghat and Damside at Lakeside. In recent years, stand-up paddleboarding has generated special interest at Phewa Lake. The activity involves balancing on a specialized board while paddling, combining recreation with physical exercise.
Alongside water sports, tourists are also enjoying boat rides. Trips to the Tal Barahi Temple situated in the center of Phewa Lake, combined with the lake’s picturesque views, make visiting Pokhara even more attractive. Ensuring the safety of participants remains a top priority. Water sports operators insist on the compulsory use of life jackets. They advise avoiding venturing into the middle of the lake during adverse weather or strong winds. With rising temperatures in Pokhara, the daily number of tourists at Phewa Lake continues to increase.
