From Domestic Violence to Marital Rape Complaints and Wife’s Murder in Tarkeshwar

According to the news summary, Kumar Thapa killed his wife, Ishwori Bhujel, by striking her with a rod and stabbing her in Tarkeshwar. The court has granted a five-day investigation period for Kumar Thapa and three others arrested in connection with the murder case. It has been clarified that cases related to domestic violence, marital rape, and divorce are currently under judicial consideration.

Kathmandu, 25 Jestha – “Life and death are in God’s hands; no one should die at my hands,” Kumar Thapa, known on social media as Nepali Bro, said in a video. Shortly after the video was released, he became the focus of attention for murdering his wife.

In Payutar, Lolang, Tarkeshwar Municipality-6, 38-year-old Kumar Thapa fatally attacked his 42-year-old wife, Ishwori Bhujel. According to SP and spokesperson Pawan Kumar Bhattarai of Kathmandu District Police Office, at 9:10 PM on Friday, Kumar assaulted Ishwori with a rod and knife, seriously injuring her. She was rushed to Tarkeshwar City Hospital and later transferred to Tribhuvan Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj, where she was declared dead at 11 PM. Kumar was taken into custody for further investigation.

During the same operation, police also arrested three others at the Balaju police post. SP Bhattarai said that along with Kumar from Tarkeshwar Rural Municipality-4, Nuwakot, 36-year-old Vikram Thapa Magar (his brother), 40-year-old Pujan Thapa Kshetri from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16 Balaju, and 25-year-old Pratiksha Acharya from Hima Gaun Municipality-1, Jumla were detained. Pujan and Pratiksha are friends. All four have been granted a five-day remand by the Kathmandu District Court for ongoing investigation. Police preliminary findings suggest the murder arose from a longstanding, aggravated family dispute.

Only recently, on 23 Bhadra, Nepali Bro had filed a domestic violence complaint against his wife at Balaju police post. Police conducted mediation between the parties afterward. Ishwori had also filed a complaint accusing Kumar of marital rape. The police had investigated and submitted the report to the government attorney’s office, which subsequently registered the marital rape case at the Kathmandu court, where it remains under consideration. Additionally, a divorce case between the couple is in court. Investigators highlight that the murder was the result of prolonged familial conflict.

These disputes have also manifested on social media, with accusations and counteraccusations regarding divorce and property matters. Ishwori Bhujel was a serving Subedar in the Nepali Army. She was returning home after work on Friday when her husband reportedly stopped her en route, leading to the fatal attack. SP Bhattarai stated, “She was stopped and assaulted on the road. Due to serious injuries, she was pronounced dead after hospital admission.” Ishwori was attacked with a knife, which police have recovered. Preliminary investigations indicate the killing was premeditated. An investigative officer said, “This was not a spontaneous attack; it was a planned murder with an ambush on the road.”

Kumar Thapa is a former Nepali soldier. After leaving the army, he continued wrestling and posted wrestling videos on social media. He was particularly active on TikTok, where he reportedly earned significant income.
