Agreement from Ceasefire to $300 Billion Reconstruction Plan between US and Iran
June 15, Kathmandu – Iran’s state-affiliated media claims that the United States and Iran have reached a 14-point Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). However, no official confirmation regarding the details of this agreement has yet been provided by any country. According to Iran’s semi-official news agency, Mehr News, the proposed points include a permanent ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon. Additionally, the agreement reportedly includes a commitment from the US not to interfere in Iran’s internal affairs.
Other provisions of the agreement reportedly include lifting the US naval blockade within 30 days, withdrawing US troops from Iranian territory, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days in accordance with the ‘Iranian system.’ The US and its allies are also said to have proposed a reconstruction plan of at least $300 billion for Iran. The agreement reportedly includes lifting sanctions on Iranian oil and energy production, while Iran will reaffirm its commitment not to develop nuclear weapons, according to Mehr News.
BBC reports that the 14-point agreement also includes the US committing not to increase its regional military presence or impose new sanctions. The report cites Mehr News saying half of Iran’s ‘frozen’ assets will be released, sanctions on Iranian oil will be suspended, and that final negotiations will not commence until the naval blockade is lifted.
