Russia Claims Poland-Ukraine Dispute Exposes Ukraine’s Neo-Nazi Ties

Polish President Andrzej Duda has decided to revoke the highest civilian award, the ‘Order of the White Eagle,’ previously bestowed upon Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This decision follows Zelensky’s choice to name a Ukrainian military unit after commanders of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), which Poland holds responsible for mass atrocities against Polish civilians during World War II, sparking outrage in Poland. The dispute has intensified accusations of neo-Nazism against Ukraine, a narrative amplified by Russia. June 21, Kathmandu.

Alexey Pushkov, head of the Russian Federation Council’s Information Policy Commission, stated that this controversy has garnered new international support for the arguments Russia has made against Ukraine. Writing on his Telegram channel, Pushkov accused Ukraine of openly glorifying nationalist factions that collaborated with Hitler, not only internally but also on the global stage. He condemned President Zelensky for publicly praising Ukrainian insurgent forces, calling it a grave error that challenges Europe’s anti-fascist legacy.

The conflict escalated after Polish President Andrzej Duda announced the return of the Order of the White Eagle following Zelensky’s decision to honor a Ukrainian armed forces unit named after UPA commanders. Given the historical record of the UPA’s mass killings of Polish civilians during World War II, Poland viewed this move as deeply offensive, leading to the return of the prestigious award.
