Egypt Finishes as Group ‘G’ Runner-Up; Iran Maintains Chance to Advance to Knockout Stage

The match proved extremely unfortunate for Iran. After missing a penalty and having a late goal disallowed for offside in injury time, Iran was unable to secure a victory. On 13 Asar, in Kathmandu, the FIFA World Cup match between Egypt and Iran ended in a 1–1 draw on Saturday. Mahmoud Saber put Egypt ahead by scoring in the 5th minute of the game. Iran was awarded a penalty in the 11th minute, but Mehdi Taremi missed the opportunity to score. Subsequently, in the 14th minute, Ramin Rezaeian scored for Iran, leveling the match. In added injury time, Iran’s goal was disallowed after a VAR review confirmed offside. As a result of this match, Egypt secured second place in Group ‘G’ with 5 points, tied on points with group leader Belgium. Iran, with 3 points in third place, still retains a chance to advance to the knockout stage.
