Police Use Tear Gas During Student Protest in Patna Supporting Delhi Demonstrations

Students in Patna staged a protest under the call of the All India Students Association (AISA) to support the ongoing student movement in Delhi. The police used tear gas shells and water cannons near JP Golambar in Patna to disperse the protesters. Clashes between students and police during the protest resulted in injuries to several protesters and media personnel.

6th Shrawan, Kathmandu. On Wednesday, students in Patna, the capital of Bihar, held demonstrations in solidarity with the student protests occurring in Delhi. The protest was organized by the All India Students Association (AISA). Besides AISA members, students from other organizations also participated. The march began at Gate No. 10 of Gandhi Maidan in Patna, with the intention to proceed towards Raj Bhavan.

Police stopped the students near JP Golambar at Gandhi Maidan and employed water cannons to try to control the crowd. According to BBC video journalist Shahnawaz Ahmad, police fired two tear gas shells. Protesters were also accused of throwing stones at the police. Despite police actions, the demonstrators advanced past JP Golambar and reached Dak Bangla Chowraha, vocally chanting slogans throughout. They shouted slogans such as ‘Go Back, Godi Media.’ Several journalists sustained injuries during the protest.
