
New Officials of the Electricity Regulatory Commission Take Oath
The new officials of the Electricity Regulatory Commission took their oath of office and secrecy on Thursday at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation. Energy Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha instructed the commissioners to play an effective role in policy reforms, good governance, and increasing national electricity consumption. Dr. Ram Prasad Dhital, Chairman of the Commission, expressed commitment to strictly implementing government good governance standards and working result-oriented in coordination with the ministry. 7th Shrawan, Kathmandu.
On Thursday at the ministry, Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha administered the oath to the Commission Chairman Dr. Ram Prasad Dhital and members Balram Silwal, Lokraj Pathak, and Jayraj Bhandari. Minister Shrestha directed the experienced officials to work on policy and structural reforms and assured full support from the ministry for the commission’s work.
The commission officials pledged to prioritize good governance in their work. Chairman Dhital stated that they will strictly implement the government’s good governance standards. He added that under the ministry’s guidance, they will perform regulatory roles and facilitate an increase in national electricity consumption.
Minister Shrestha noted that the commission should supervise the Department of Electricity Development (DOED) and Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) under the ministry. He suggested monitoring the electricity authority’s procurement processes according to a set schedule. Minister Shrestha conveyed his expectation that the commission will lead governance reforms in energy-related bodies.
