US President Trump Warns Removing FIFA President Infantino Would Be a Grave Mistake

US President Donald Trump has warned that removing FIFA President Gianni Infantino from his position would be a grave mistake. UEFA, CONCACAF, and AFC have accused Infantino of breaching trust through the FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal and have issued an open letter against him. Trump defended Infantino, stating that the World Cup under his leadership has been the most successful to date. UEFA has threatened to boycott FIFA competitions. Kathmandu, August 12.

Trump stated, “If FIFA, for any reason, decides to remove President Gianni Infantino, it would be a terrible mistake for global football.” He added, “He is exceptional, and under his guidance, the most successful World Cup has been held so far — four times more successful. If he is removed, future World Cups will neither be as successful nor as profitable.” The 2026 World Cup was jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The investor group for the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) plan was expected to be led by the American venture capital company Thrive Eternal. Infantino shares a close relationship with Trump. UEFA, the supreme governing body of European football, has threatened to boycott all FIFA competitions and indicated the possibility of taking legal action regarding the canceled FFE proposal.
