Iranian President Raeisi Prepares for Visit to New Delhi Ahead of BRICS Summit

Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi is preparing to travel to India to attend the 18th BRICS Summit scheduled for September in New Delhi. Having become a full member of BRICS in 2024, Iran is expected to use this visit to discuss bilateral relations with India and regional security issues. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized the importance of dialogue, noting that India can play a constructive role in resolving tensions in West Asia. (29 Shrawan, New Delhi)

According to Iranian sources on Friday, Raeisi’s visit to India is considered significant in the context of Iran-India relations and the recent regional situation in West Asia. With India set to assume the BRICS chairmanship in 2026 and host the summit, Raeisi’s participation carries special significance. The summit’s theme is ‘Building Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.’

Iran became a full BRICS member in 2024 alongside Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates. With Indonesia joining the group in 2025, the total number of full members has reached 11. Earlier in 2024, Raeisi held talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had participated in the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting held in India in June. Following the meeting, he stated that India could play a key role in reducing escalating tensions in West Asia. Araghchi underscored that there is no future for armed conflict and no military solution to the current crisis, making negotiations the practical path towards resolution.
