Men’s and Women’s Kabaddi Teams Aim for Medals at 20th Asian Games

Following an outstanding performance in the previous edition, Nepal’s women’s kabaddi team is set to make history once again by participating in the 20th Asian Games. The team is receiving specialized training in India to defend their medal and deliver another excellent performance. Parvati Rai, the head coach of the women’s team, expressed strong confidence in securing a medal this time as well, citing the presence of experienced players and the valuable match practice gained in India.

Competing in their fifth Asian Games, the Nepalese men’s kabaddi team is also aiming to improve their performance and secure a medal. Kathmandu, 30th Shrawan – During the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, few had expected the Nepalese women’s kabaddi team to medal, with many anticipating they would only participate, similar to the men’s team. However, the women’s team delivered an extraordinary performance and won a historic bronze medal for Nepal.

Currently, both kabaddi teams from Nepal are training in India. According to coach Lok Bahadur Bista, “The team has played practice matches against various teams from Haryana and will proceed to Japan for the Asian Games after final preparations.” Coach Bista stated that their goal this time is to ensure a medal at a higher level than before and added, “Even if we can’t secure a top medal, we aim to defend our previous medal.”

The women’s kabaddi competition features eight participating nations. Nepal is in Group B, competing against Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Chinese Taipei. Nepal plans to consider Chinese Taipei as the main challenge during the group stage. Group A includes Iran, Japan, Bangladesh, and India. India was the champion at the 19th Asian Games, having won the final with the title. Coach Vishnudatt Bhatt mentioned that Nepal’s team is stronger than in past editions and emphasized, “This time, our goal is to win a medal.”
