Mechinagar Successfully Defends Jhapa 1-Kathmandu Cup Futsal Title

Mechinagar, the defending champion, successfully retained the Jhapa 1-Kathmandu Cup futsal title by defeating Shantinagar with a 3–0 goal margin. Mechinagar’s Pathung Nembang, Rajdeep Adhikari, and Pratik Subedi each scored one goal, securing the team’s victory. Rajdeep Adhikari from Mechinagar was named the best player of the tournament.

In the semifinals, Shantinagar advanced to the final by defeating Jyamirgadhi in a thrilling penalty shootout with a 10–9 scoreline. In the other semifinal, Mechinagar defeated Bahundangi convincingly with a 2–0 lead. A total of seven teams from Jhapa participated in the competition.

During the tournament, a friendly futsal match was held between artists and politicians. The artists’ team won decisively with an 8–1 score. Milan Khadka scored three goals for the artists’ side, while Yogendra Upadhyay and Prashant Shivakoti each contributed two goals.

The tournament winner received Rs 21,000 in cash along with a trophy and medals, while the runner-up was awarded Rs 11,000 in cash, a trophy, and medals. The opening ceremony of the tournament was inaugurated by Nepali Congress chairman Gagan Thapa.
