Trump Angered at South Korea: ‘I Have a Very Good Relationship with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un’

September 17, Kathmandu – US President Donald Trump has announced a significant reduction in joint military exercises conducted with South Korea. He also stated that he maintains an exceptionally good relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Since I have a very good relationship with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, I do not like the idea of participating in the joint military exercises with South Korea that America has been conducting for so long.”

Trump further mentioned that South Korea refused to join the US in efforts to denuclearize Iran. He wrote, “These exercises are not only expensive, with much of the cost typically borne by the United States, but they also send a completely inappropriate and hostile signal.” However, South Korea has indicated that the military exercises with the US will proceed as scheduled.

North Korea has yet to respond to these comments. Meanwhile, earlier this month, North Korea conducted ballistic missile tests that are banned by the United Nations. Trump noted on social media Sunday that it is too late to cancel the exercises now. He added, “I recently asked the president of South Korea whether they wanted to join us in denuclearizing the Islamic Republic of Iran. Their answer was, no, thank you.”

Trump’s statement came less than 24 hours after releasing an old photograph taken in 2019 with Kim Jong Un, in which he described their relationship as great friendship. (Agency)
