Fire Breaks Out in Kolkata Hotel, Resulting in 9 Deaths

At approximately 2 a.m. on Wednesday, a fire broke out at a hotel located on Mirza Ghalib Street in Kolkata, claiming the lives of at least nine individuals and leaving six others critically injured. Preliminary reports indicate that the nine deceased were Bangladeshi nationals who had come to Kolkata for medical treatment. Police and fire brigade teams have brought the fire under control and launched an investigation, though the cause of the fire remains unknown.

A devastating fire in a Kolkata hotel early Wednesday morning has caused significant human loss. According to Indian media, the blaze erupted around 2 a.m. at a hotel on Mirza Ghalib Street. Most of the occupants were asleep when the fire started.

The nine casualties are reported to be Bangladeshi citizens who had traveled to Kolkata seeking medical care. As thick smoke and flames emerged, panic ensued within the hotel premises. The fire spread rapidly within a short period. Upon receiving the distress call, numerous police and fire service vehicles arrived at the scene, initiating rescue and relief operations immediately.

Smoke density hampered firefighters’ ability to contain the blaze, making it difficult to reach the upper floors of the hotel. After prolonged efforts, the fire service successfully extinguished the fire completely. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Authorities have commenced an investigation aided by forensic teams. Notably, earlier this week on Monday, a fire at a four-story hotel in Birbhum district, West Bengal, resulted in seven fatalities.
