September 22, Kathmandu – Former Pakistan cricket captain and ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan has been moved from jail to a private hospital in Islamabad following an order from the Supreme Court.
The 73-year-old Imran was transferred early Friday morning from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital under strict security arrangements. The Supreme Court of Pakistan had ordered comprehensive medical evaluation and treatment of Imran by a multidisciplinary team due to his declining health condition.
Imran’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has also confirmed the hospital transfer.
Since February, Imran’s legal and party teams have repeatedly expressed concern over his health. It was claimed that at one point, lack of proper treatment had reduced the vision in his right eye to 15 percent. Subsequently, he underwent short-term medical evaluations at government hospitals several times.
Earlier, 14 former international captains including Greg Chappell, Sunil Gavaskar, and Kapil Dev wrote an open letter to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urging that Imran receive respectful, humane, and adequate medical care.
Imran has been imprisoned in Adiala since August 2023, serving sentences related to various corruption cases. Both he and his party continue to assert that all allegations are politically motivated.
