Iranian President Says Iran Ready to Rejoin Islamabad MOU if US Returns

16 Bhadra, Kathmandu – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that if the United States is prepared to fulfill its obligations under the Islamabad MOU, Iran will also promptly begin implementing the agreement. He made these remarks at the Shanghai Summit on Tuesday.

“The Islamabad MOU between Iran and the United States was signed by the then US president,” Pezeshkian said. “However, the US demonstrated commitment to the document for less than two weeks.”

Pezeshkian explained that the US neglected its promises and obligations, prompting an appropriate response from Iran. Other Iranian leaders and military officials have recently reiterated that if the US returns to the Islamabad MOU, Iran is ready to accept its terms.

In June, under Pakistan’s mediation, the US and Iran had agreed in Islamabad—the capital of Pakistan—to prevent war and establish sustainable peace. This agreement is widely known as the Islamabad MOU.
