
Lamin Yamal: I Have Endured Thousands of Instances of Racial Abuse
Lamin Yamal, the 19-year-old from Barcelona, has revealed that he has faced thousands of incidents of racial abuse throughout his career. He stated, “Many remarks and stares are more racial than people might realize.” Yamal clarified, “If someone calls me ‘black,’ it doesn’t affect me.”
The Spanish Observatory on Racism and Xenophobia reported that Yamal, along with Vinicius Junior, was among the most targeted players for online racial abuse in the final quarter of 2025. Kathmandu, September 18.
In an interview with Movistar, he said, “Thousands of times. People show racial behavior towards you indirectly, but maybe they don’t realize it.” He added, “If someone calls me ‘black,’ it doesn’t affect me because I am truly black.” During the 2024 El Clasico match at Santiago Bernabeu, Yamal was also a victim of racial abuse.
