Rain Threatens Quarterfinal Match Between Sri Lanka and Nepal at Asian Games

In the 20th Asian Games men’s cricket quarterfinal, Nepal is set to face Sri Lanka on Tuesday morning at 5:45 AM at Korogi Sports Park. However, persistent rain forecasts in Nishin, Japan, raise a strong possibility that the match between Nepal and Sri Lanka may not start and could be abandoned. Should the match be canceled, Sri Lanka will advance to the semifinals based on their higher seeding. Earlier, two quarterfinal matches scheduled for Monday were also called off due to rain.

Kathmandu, October 12 – During the Asian Games quarterfinal cricket matches for men, Nepal and Sri Lanka are scheduled to compete at Korogi Sports Park on Tuesday at 5:45 AM. Despite the schedule, the likelihood that the match will commence is low due to heavy and continuous rainfall forecasted in Nishin, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. There is a significant risk that the rain will disrupt play throughout the day. Forecast models predict an 80 to 90 percent chance of rainfall during most of the game’s expected duration. Even if only half of the forecast holds true, it is evident that rain will impact the proceedings, potentially affecting the Nepal-Sri Lanka match. If the match cannot be played, Sri Lanka will proceed to the semifinals based on higher seeding.

Prior to this, the quarterfinal matches involving India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Hong Kong, scheduled for Monday, were also canceled due to rain. Consequently, India and Pakistan advanced directly to the semifinals based on their higher seeding rankings.
