The death of a staff member at a plague research laboratory in Siberia, Russia, has triggered widespread international concern and attention. The World Health Organization has urged Russia to provide more detailed information related to the incident. According to Russian media reports, 28-year-old Darya Shipilova passed away on October 2.

Following her death, it has emerged that numerous individuals in the Irkutsk region of Siberia have been placed under observation. Various speculations have circulated regarding the cause of the laboratory worker’s death. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has urged the public not to fall for rumors and to rely solely on official information from the government’s public health regulatory agencies. The Russian government has attributed her death to “pneumonia of unknown cause.”
