Nepal Defeats Canada by 24 Runs in ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 Encounter

With Rohit Paudel’s century of 101 runs, Nepal defeated Canada by 24 runs in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 one-day international series held in Oman. Nepal posted a total of 235 runs after losing all wickets in the 50 overs, with Gulshan Jhyal contributing 48 runs. Canada was bowled out for 211 runs in 48.4 overs, where Karan KC, Lalit Rajbanshi, Sandeep Lamichhane, and Nandan Yadav each took two wickets.

October 12, Kathmandu – In the opening match of the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 ODI series hosted in Oman, Nepal secured a 24-run victory over Canada. The game, played at the Oman Cricket Academy Ministry Turf 1, saw Canada fall short of the 236-run target by being all out for 211 in 48.4 overs.

For Canada, Aaron Johnson scored 44 runs, while Samit Gohel added 35, Akhil Kumar remained unbeaten with 30, and both Shreyas Movah and captain Hamza Tariq scored 26 runs each. Karan KC, Lalit Rajbanshi, Sandeep Lamichhane, and Nandan Yadav all claimed two wickets apiece for Nepal.

Nepal batted first after losing the toss and set a target of 236 runs, losing all wickets in their 50 overs. Rohit Paudel was the top scorer with an impressive 101 runs off 127 balls, including 8 fours and 1 six. Gulshan Jhyal played a crucial innings, scoring 48 runs off 34 balls, while Arjun Kumal added 23 runs.

For Canada, Akhil Kumar took 4 wickets, Sukjinder Singh claimed 3, and Zahir Shirzad picked up 2 wickets. In the earlier match of the series, Oman had defeated Canada. Following that defeat, Canada’s chances of finishing in the top 4 have diminished, and Nepal’s primary focus will now be on maintaining their ODI status.

With this victory, Nepal moved to sixth place on the League 2 points table with 26 points from 33 matches, while Canada dropped to seventh place with 25 points from 34 matches.
