US President Trump Claims ‘Friendly Talks’ Ongoing with Iran Amid War De-escalation

US President Donald Trump has stated that “friendly talks” are ongoing with Iran and there is a good chance the war will come to an end. However, Iran has denied engaging in any direct negotiations with the United States. Following appeals from intermediaries, the US has paused its attacks on Iran, while Iran has also temporarily halted retaliatory actions.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Monday, Trump said, “I think there is a good chance this war will end.” Nevertheless, he warned that if the talks fail, the United States would resume its pre-ceasefire operations. Iran, on its part, has rejected claims of any direct dialogue with the US.

Countries mediating between the two sides had requested another opportunity for talks. Consequently, Trump announced that the US had suspended attacks on Iran last Friday. Iran, in turn, has also paused its retaliatory strikes. This pause comes after nearly two weeks of continuous US strikes and Iranian counteractions.

The recent attacks had nearly nullified the June ceasefire. At that time, the US military stated that its operations aimed to degrade Iranian capabilities that threatened commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
