Electric Crematorium in Devghat, Chitwan Inaugurated; To Operate Under Public-Private Partnership

An electric crematorium constructed in Devghat, Chitwan, has been officially inaugurated and will be operated under a public-private partnership framework. The structure, completed at a cost of NPR 112,18,641 by the Intensive Urban and Building Construction Project, has been handed over to Bharatpur Metropolitan City. The crematorium, finalized after seven years of construction, is equipped with two electric machines expected to aid in the management of unclaimed bodies. (13 Shrawn, Chitwan)

Due to the high operational costs associated with running the crematorium, it will be managed through a public-private partnership model. The Metropolitan City has already formulated the necessary guidelines to operate the facility under this arrangement. After seven years of development, the electric crematorium’s construction is now complete and features two electric cremation machines. The Urban Development Office undertook the construction project with a total expenditure of NPR 112,18,641.

Devghat serves as a key location for cremation services for bodies brought from various districts including Chitwan, Nawalparasi, and Tanahun. Previously, a shortage of firewood posed challenges to managing the cremation process. The establishment of the electric crematorium is expected to significantly support the cremation management, particularly for unclaimed bodies.
