Pilot Arrested at Jakarta Airport Attempting to Smuggle Large Quantity of Drugs

A pilot arriving from Malaysia was apprehended at Jakarta’s international airport carrying over 70,000 ecstasy pills. If found guilty of drug trafficking, the pilot could face penalties ranging from life imprisonment to the death sentence in Indonesia. Officials confirmed that the co-pilot, who was on a flight from Kuala Lumpur, also tested positive for drug use.

Customs officers at the airport discovered 14 bags containing a total of 26 kilograms of ecstasy pills in his suitcase, along with four grams of methamphetamine in a bag he was carrying. Indonesia has strict laws to combat drug trafficking; however, although the death penalty remains a possible sentence, it has not been carried out in recent years.
