Former Captain Man Bahadur Expresses Desire to Lead Nepal Volleyball Association

Former captain of the Nepali national volleyball team, Man Bahadur Shrestha, has expressed his intention to take leadership of the Nepal Volleyball Association. Currently residing in Australia, Shrestha stated that with the support of the Nepal government and the National Sports Council, he is prepared to independently manage the association. Debuting in the national team in 2015, Shrestha retired and moved abroad in Kartik 2081 BS, after feeling uncertain about the future in volleyball. (25th Saun, Kathmandu)

Man Bahadur Shrestha is now based in Australia. He retired from international volleyball in Kartik 2081 BS and migrated to Australia. He has now conveyed his willingness to lead the Nepal Volleyball Association. Through social media, he mentioned his readiness to return to Nepal and head the association. “If possible, you can appoint me as the president of the Nepal Volleyball Association. If confirmed by the National Sports Council and Nepal government and I am allowed to manage the association, I am ready to come,” he said.

Although eager to join the association, Shrestha hinted at contesting in an election. He remarked, “If there is a way to take charge without political interference, I am not interested in politics. I do not want to enter that space. Therefore, I am prepared to run the volleyball association independently.” According to the bylaws of the Nepal Volleyball Association, one must be a member for one term before becoming president. To become president directly as Shrestha suggests, the constitution would need to be amended, which currently seems unlikely.

In 2068 BS, Man Bahadur played for the then Western Region senior team and also represented the Nepal Police team under contract for nearly two years. Beginning in 2071 BS, he started working with the Army and represented its volleyball team. Within a year, he debuted in the national team, making his international debut in 2015 against Bangladesh during the Asian Central Zone Volleyball tournament held in Bangladesh. In Saun 2080 BS, he was appointed captain of the national team, but retired and emigrated the following year. He cited lack of future prospects in volleyball as the reason compelling his move to Australia.
