Iranian Foreign Minister Calls on UN Secretary-General to Hold Aggressor Nations Accountable

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi urged United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to bring aggressor nations to legal account. Araghchi condemned the military operations of the United States and Israel in strong terms, stating that they violate international law and human rights.

Iran claims it has the legal right to halt the movement of vessels associated with the aggressor side to ensure its security in the Strait of Hormuz. On February 25 in Kathmandu, Araghchi appealed to Secretary-General Guterres to hold the aggressors accountable under Chapter 7 of the UN Charter.

Foreign Minister Araghchi identified US and Israeli military interventions as the primary cause of instability in the Middle East and the Strait of Hormuz. He asserted Iran’s legal right, as a coastal state bordering the Strait of Hormuz, to restrict the passage of ships linked to the aggressor parties to safeguard its security.

The intense conflict that started on February 28 has triggered a global energy crisis and severely impacted regional security.
