Xavi Appointed Head Coach of Netherlands Men’s National Football Team

Former Spanish player and ex-Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez has been appointed as the head coach of the Netherlands men’s national football team. The Dutch Football Federation has entrusted the 46-year-old Xavi with this responsibility until 2030. He becomes the first foreign coach to lead the Dutch national team since 1978.

Xavi expressed that he feels deeply honored to be appointed as the coach of the Netherlands. He replaces Ronald Koeman, the former Barcelona coach, who resigned from the position following the FIFA World Cup. This marks Xavi’s first time as the head coach of any national team.

Previously, Xavi served as coach for Saudi Arabia’s Al Sadd club and Spain’s Barcelona. His tenure as the Dutch head coach will begin on September 24 with the UEFA Nations League match against Germany. After stepping down from the Barcelona coaching role in 2024, Xavi had not taken charge as head coach of any team until now.
