Nepal to Train in India Ahead of ACC Premier Cup; Cricket Association Hosts Farewell Ceremony
The Nepal national cricket team departed for India on Friday to prepare for the ACC Premier Cup. Paras Khadka, Secretary of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), informed that the team will undergo a 10-day training camp in India before proceeding directly to Malaysia. Captain Sandeep Lamichhane expressed confidence, stating that their goal is to win the tournament. Kathmandu, 29th Shrawan.
On Friday, CAN held a farewell program for the Nepalese team as they prepared to train in India. CAN Vice President Roshan Singh, Secretary Paras Khadka, and others bade the team farewell. Secretary Khadka explained that the team’s preparations for the Premier Cup will take place in India, after which they will head straight to Malaysia. “Initially, the plan was to train in India, return to Nepal, and then travel to Malaysia, but a decision was made only this morning to send the team directly from India to Malaysia after training there, which prompted us to organize an early farewell event,” he said.
Secretary Khadka emphasized that a leadership change was necessary for the development of Nepalese cricket and expressed aspirations for the team to grow into a strong cricketing nation. CAN Cricket Director Binod Das stated that the Nepal team will participate in a 10-day training camp beginning today in India. After playing two practice matches there, the team will proceed to Malaysia, where a further five-day camp is scheduled.
Captain Sandeep Lamichhane acknowledged that recent series performances had not been satisfactory and that the team has identified mistakes to improve upon during the upcoming tour. He affirmed, “Our objective is to win the ACC Premier Cup.” CAN Secretary Paras Khadka expressed confidence that Nepal will perform well, achieve victory in the Premier Cup, and qualify for the Asia Cup. The ACC Premier Cup is set to begin on Kartik 13 in Malaysia, featuring competition among 10 associate teams from across Asia.
