Nominations for People’s Choice Announced: From Meena Sunar to Ravindra Dhant
The Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) has announced nominations for the People’s Choice category under the 23rd NSJF Pulsar Sports Awards 2082. The nominees include Meena Sunar, Puja Rana, Sanumaya Thing, Sher Mall, and Ravindra Dhant. Collaborating with Khalti by IME for the winner selection, the award program, which features nine categories, is scheduled for Bhadra 18, where winners will receive a Pulsar motorcycle among various awards.
The NSJF revealed the nominees for the People’s Choice category for this upcoming 23rd edition of the NSJF Pulsar Sports Awards 2082, to be held on Bhadra 18. Volleyball player Meena Sunar, footballer Puja Rana, karateka Sanumaya Thing, cricketer Sher Mall, and mixed martial artist Ravindra Dhant have been nominated. This year, the forum again partnered with Khalti by IME as the voting partner for the People’s Choice category.
The People’s Choice winner will be selected based on votes from sports journalists affiliated with the forum, national coaches, forum members, social media supporters, and votes cast via Khalti. The total vote distribution includes 50% from Khalti and 50% from Facebook, national sports federation head coaches, and forum members. Votes on Facebook must be cast through the official Facebook pages of the NSJF Pulsar Sports Award and Pulsar Nepal. The winner in this category will receive a Pulsar motorcycle.
Nominee Meena Sunar is a rising star in Nepalese women’s volleyball. Known as a powerful spiker, she delivered an outstanding performance representing Nepal in the KAVHA Women’s Championship. She helped Nepal Police Club secure third place at the KAVHA Women’s Club Championship and currently captains Everest Volleyball Club in Butwal. Football nominee Puja Rana made an impressive impact during the Asian Cup qualifiers held in Uzbekistan.
Karateka Sanumaya Thing advanced past the qualifying rounds to compete at the World Karate Championship in Cairo. Cricketer Sher Mall garnered attention by taking a wicket with his very first ball during his ICC T20 World Cup debut. Mixed martial artist Ravindra Dhant, known as the “Tiger of Bajhang,” is also among the nominees. The awards honor the sportspeople who delivered outstanding performances throughout the year 2082.
The 23rd edition will present awards across nine categories: Male Athlete of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year, Youth Athlete of the Year, Coach of the Year, People’s Choice, Para Athlete Honor, Special Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, and Asian Sports Journalist Award. Winners of the Male Athlete, Female Athlete, Youth Athlete, and Coach categories will receive a Pulsar motorcycle, while recipients in other categories will each be awarded NPR 100,000, according to the forum.
