Over 130 Landslides and at Least 22 Deaths in Nepal Within a Week as Disaster Strikes Nationwide

Authorities have reported that at least 22 people have lost their lives due to the most severe landslide disaster that has struck Nepal in the past week.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), 132 major landslide incidents were recorded during the week leading up to Saun 31 (mid-August).

NDRRMA spokesperson Shanti Mahat described the situation as “very serious,” highlighting that particularly in Rolpa and Jajarkot districts, many tragic events occurred.

“Just in Rolpa alone, 17 people have died in the past week due to landslides, along with 4 deaths in Jajarkot and 1 in Bajura,” she said.

“Currently, more than 200 individuals have been relocated to temporary shelters in other areas.”
