World Cup Star Rodri Set to Join Barcelona

Spanish club Barcelona is preparing to sign Manchester City midfielder and World Cup winner Rodri for £65 million. Rodri is set to agree to a four-year contract with Barcelona, with the transfer expected to be finalized in the coming days. The 30-year-old, winner of the 2024 Ballon d’Or, has secured 12 major trophies during his time with Manchester City.

Barcelona aims to acquire Rodri, the standout player of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. As captain and midfielder of the Spain squad that ended a 16-year wait by lifting the World Cup, Rodri is highly sought after. The club is negotiating a £65 million deal, with the 30-year-old Ballon d’Or recipient poised to sign a four-year agreement with the La Liga champions. The transfer is anticipated to be completed shortly.

Last week, Barcelona made a £38.5 million offer which Manchester City rejected. Rodri played 298 matches for the club, winning 12 trophies. He originally joined City in 2019 from Spain’s Atlético Madrid for £62.8 million. Despite spending much of the 2024-25 season sidelined due to a knee injury, Rodri played a crucial role captaining Spain to victory at the World Cup in North America. During his tenure at City, he helped secure four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three EFL Cups, and one UEFA Champions League trophy.
