Critical Role of the Upcoming Series in Determining Nepal’s Top 6 Placement

The question of whether Nepal will finish in the top six is expected to be almost definitively answered during the upcoming series. If the series concludes and Nepal fails to secure a top-six position, the door to progression will be firmly closed for the team. Currently, Nepal stands seventh on the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 points table with 24 points from 32 matches. Captain Sandeep Lamichhane has emphasized the need to correct mistakes in the upcoming games and proceed with a well-planned strategy. To maintain their One Day International (ODI) status, Nepal must win at least three of their remaining four matches. (29 Shrawan, Kathmandu)

The recent series completed under the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 have intensified the points table calculations, creating intriguing and challenging scenarios. Scotland, Canada, and the UAE recently concluded their series in Scotland, where Scotland won three matches and the UAE claimed one victory, with two games ending in a draw. Several matches between Scotland and UAE, as well as Canada and UAE, were abandoned due to rain, with Scotland winning both matches against Canada. Although UAE defeated Canada in one game, they narrowly lost to Scotland by one wicket. Canada, however, was unable to win any matches in this series.

According to the current points table, Scotland leads with 45 points from 36 matches, followed by the United States in second place with 43 points from 32 matches, and the Netherlands in third with 38 points from 32 matches. These three teams have mathematically secured positions ahead of Nepal. Oman is fourth with 31 points from 28 matches, Namibia fifth with 28 points from 32 matches, and Canada sixth with 25 points from 32 matches. Nepal is seventh with 24 points from 32 matches, while the UAE occupies eighth place with 18 points from 28 matches.
