Historic T20 International Cricket Match Scheduled Between India and Japan

The first international T20 match between the men’s cricket teams of India and Japan is scheduled to take place on September 22 in Tochigi Prefecture. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that this match will mark the formal commencement of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Japan.

Organized under the ‘Sport 75’ initiative, this event aims to promote people-to-people exchange and develop cricket in East Asia. BCCI Secretary Devjit Sakia described this as a historic opportunity to strengthen the friendship between India and Japan through cricket. He further stated that the match will provide a significant platform to introduce cricket to new audiences in Japan and across East Asia.

The ‘Sport 75’ initiative was launched following an agreement between Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to the BCCI, India has linked this initiative with its aspirations for hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2036.
