The highly anticipated Nepal Premier League (NPL) has officially awarded its broadcast rights to Himalaya Sports (Himalaya TV). At the bid opening held Monday at the Cricket Association of Nepal’s office, Himalaya Sports secured the rights by placing a record bid of NPR 172.4 million including taxes (NPR 145.6 million excluding taxes). The company issued an official statement the same day expressing honor and pride in acquiring the NPL broadcast rights.
According to the statement, the amount bid by Himalaya Sports is over five times the price paid for the broadcasting rights last year. Additionally, it is nearly two and a half times the predetermined minimum bidding amount for this year. “We firmly believe that the NPL deserves investment of this scale. We are fully confident that the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) will elevate this competition to the status of a leading sporting property in the region,” Himalaya Sports stated clearly.
The company regards the growing value of the NPL as a powerful example of what can be achieved by building a commercially sustainable and robust competition. Such financial growth is expected to strengthen the overall cricket ecosystem, generate additional resources, and create new opportunities for the development of the sport. For Himalaya Sports, securing these broadcast rights is not just a business acquisition but also a demonstration of its long-term commitment to Nepali cricket. They intend to deliver the NPL to audiences with high quality and wide accessibility.
