Kathmandu Reds Defeat Sagarmatha, Nepal Volleyball League Enters Exciting Phase

Kathmandu, 8 September – Kathmandu Reds secured their second victory in the Nepal Volleyball League (NVL) by defeating Sagarmatha Smashers 3-1 on Tuesday. The match, held at the National Sports Council’s covered hall in Tripureshwor, saw Kathmandu easily take the first set 25-12, gaining an early lead. However, Sagarmatha bounced back to claim the second set 25-22, leveling the match. Kathmandu then won the next two sets 25-18 and 25-20, sealing the victory.

This win marks Kathmandu’s second triumph, while Sagarmatha suffered their second consecutive loss. Following this result, the league has entered an exciting phase. Kathmandu now sits fourth with 5 points from 3 games. With two matches remaining in the league stage, this win could prove crucial. Kathmandu’s upcoming fixtures include matches against the league leaders Karnali Shivraj and Khaptad Falcons.

Sagarmatha, having played 4 games, holds second place with 7 points. They are yet to play their final league game against Annapurna Spiker Kings. Earlier on Tuesday, Madhesh Warriors earned their first win by defeating Khaptad Falcons 3-0. Khaptad has now lost three consecutive games and remains without points. The league will continue with two matches on Wednesday, starting with Annapurna versus Khaptad at 4 pm.

Organized by Kedia Group, this is the inaugural men’s volleyball franchise league featuring six teams competing. After the league stage, the top-ranked team will advance directly to the final, while the second and third-placed teams will compete in a playoff for final entry. The final is scheduled for 13 September, with the winning team receiving a cash prize of 2 million NPR.
