Gas Industry Representatives Express Discontent Over Minister’s Remarks, Threaten Strong Action

Gas industry stakeholders have expressed anger after Industry Minister Gaurikumar Yadav stated that all LPG gas industries should be shut down and their licenses revoked. Diwan Chand, President of the LPG Gas Industry Association Nepal, informed the Prime Minister’s Office to retract the minister’s inappropriate comments. While discussions are ongoing among concerned parties to ensure regular supply of LPG used for cooking, Minister Yadav sparked a new controversy by stating the need to close all gas industries and cancel their licenses. During the Industry Committee meeting on Wednesday, the minister went further, threatening the gas businessmen with license cancellation and stringent action, which has caused discontent among industry operators.

As the Industry Committee meeting was underway, discussions between Nepal Oil Corporation and businesspeople aimed at facilitating smooth supply of gas were also taking place. However, Minister Yadav made objectionable remarks about the industry players during the committee meeting, provoking anger among the gas industry representatives. Diwan Chand, President of the LPG Gas Industry Association, expressed deep disappointment and discouragement that the government and private sector, who should cooperate during times of crisis, are instead facing threatening language from the minister herself.
