Imran Tahir Becomes Oldest Wicketkeeper to Take Five Wickets in T20 Cricket

At 47 years old, Imran Tahir set a new record in T20 cricket by taking five wickets for just 17 runs against Saint Lucia Kings in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). In his 461st T20 match, Tahir delivered an exceptional bowling performance, restricting the Guyana Amazon Warriors to 119 runs. He credited his son for continuously encouraging him to keep playing cricket.

Kathmandu, September 11 – Former South African cricketer Imran Tahir has become the oldest player to take five wickets in a T20 match at the age of 47. He achieved this milestone while representing Guyana Amazon Warriors against Saint Lucia Kings in the CPL. In the match held Wednesday at Providence, Tahir bowled four overs for 17 runs, claiming five wickets — marking the best bowling figures of his T20 career.

Imran Tahir began his T20 career in 2006 in Pakistan’s domestic circuit. Now in his fifth decade, he serves as the captain and main spinner for Guyana. After the match, Tahir stated, “My son is my biggest inspiration. He keeps saying, ‘Daddy, play for one more year and we should play together.’ I continue playing to inspire him and young players around the world.”
