US President Donald Trump has once again asserted that he deserves to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
“No president has ever been able to stop wars. I have ended eight wars and probably prevented global destruction as well. Therefore, I deserve to receive the Nobel Peace Prize,” he stated.
Norway’s Nobel Committee is set to announce the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday.
When questioned about the award, Trump said, “I don’t know what their decision will be. Their reputation suggests they might not give the prize to people like me.”
Throughout his presidency, Trump has repeatedly declared himself worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize.
Speaking with professionals, he added, “Maybe the time has come. I have proven I am more deserving than the last person who received this honor. Although I received it indirectly, I felt proud.”
Opposition leader from Venezuela, Maria Corina Machado, awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to Trump in 2025.
After their first in-person meeting, she remarked, “I believe today is a historic day for Venezuela.”
Their meeting took place at the White House in January 2026, just weeks after the US military apprehended Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on drug trafficking charges.
Trump expressed gratitude toward Machado on social media, calling the award “a great sign of mutual respect.”
He described his meeting with Machado as a significant honor and referred to her as “an extremely courageous and remarkable woman.” However, he refrained from endorsing who the new leader of Venezuela should be.
After leaving the White House, Machado told supporters gathered outside, in Spanish, “We can trust President Trump.”
“I have awarded the President of the United States the Nobel Peace Prize medal,” Machado later told journalists in English.
She referred to it as “an acknowledgment of his unique commitment to our freedom.”
Although Machado tried to share the award with Trump, the Nobel Committee later clarified that such a transfer would be invalid.
“Once announced, the Nobel Prize cannot be revoked, divided, or transferred to others,” the committee emphasized. “This decision is final and permanent.”
Trump has frequently voiced his wish to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
He also expressed dissatisfaction after Machado’s announcement of awarding him the prize.
In August last year, the Trump administration compiled a list of “wars I have stopped,” claiming he was the “Peacemaker-in-Chief” and that the Nobel Peace Prize should have been awarded to him earlier, criticizing the delay.
