March 16, Kathmandu – The Nepal Sports Federation (Nekos), under which the National Judo Association operates, is hosting the 8th International Judo Competition. The main sponsor for this year’s event is B and T Trading Company Limited based in Hokkaido, Japan.
At a press conference held Wednesday, Dharma Kumar Shrestha, the event chairman, and Bishnu Giri, CEO of B and T Trading, signed an agreement detailing the company’s sponsorship. According to the agreement, B and T will provide NPR 2 million in Japanese yen to support the event.
The competition will take place from March 21 to 23 in Nepal, featuring a total of 35 categories across Cadet and Junior levels. The Cadet category, for athletes under 18 years, includes 21 events — 11 for males and 10 for females. The Junior category, for ages 18 to 21, will include 7 events each for male and female participants.
Athletes representing various provinces, districts, clubs, schools, and dojos across Nepal will compete, alongside participants from Bhutan and Bangladesh. Chairman Shrestha revealed that a total of 300 athletes from these three nations are expected to take part.
The top three teams will receive cash prizes of NPR 15,000, 10,000, and 5,000 respectively. In previous editions, Nepal’s Band Aid Organization (PAM) team has dominated by winning the champion team title. Additionally, the best two male and two female players will be awarded NPR 5,000 each.
Chairman Shrestha also shared that insurance coverage worth NPR 500,000 has been secured for the participating athletes and officials. The organizers will provide arrangements for their meals, accommodation, and transportation. The total expenses for conducting the event are estimated to be around NPR 3.1 million.
All matches over the three days will be held at the multipurpose Martial Arts Center (MMAC) located at Khusibun. The competition schedule includes 9 finals on the first day and 13 finals each on the second and third days for gold medals.
