Intense Discussions on Candidate for Parliamentary Committee Chair in Rastriya Swatantra Party

March 12, Kathmandu – The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is deeply engaged in discussions to select its nominee for the chairperson of the parliamentary committee. The party is clear on the need to hand over the chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee to an opposition party, but a consensus on which opposition party should assume the role has yet to be reached. Apart from RSP, there are five other parties in the House of Representatives: Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Nepal Communist Party, Labour Culture Party, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), all serving as opposition.

Internal deliberations within RSP are also ongoing regarding the allocation of chairpersonship roles for the remaining nine parliamentary subject committees in the House of Representatives. When assigning these committee leadership positions, the party is striving to appoint members from the factions that merged into the RSP. Before the elections, several groups, including Bibeksheel Sajha, had joined RSP. Under the Federal Parliament, there are a total of 16 subject committees: 10 in the House of Representatives and 4 in the National Assembly, along with 2 joint committees. Chairpersons for the National Assembly committees have already been selected. Last Friday, 10 House of Representatives committees and 2 joint committees were formed, with elections for their chairpersons scheduled for April 17.
